Cindy Wider, in her collection of works titled Rolling Hills of White Flat, examines the lives of farmers’ wives in her continual journey to formulate the complex definition of what it means to be a woman.

Ten photographs from regional artist Sash Whitehead reveal her eye for detail in both the natural and created landscapes of Western Queensland. A longstanding love of country racing, part of the fabric of western lfe, is shown in her cheeky view of jockeys in action on the Corfield track. The exhibition is on display until 29 April 2011.

Generation Next Regional Youth Competition and Exhibition - 2010

Fifteen young artists ranging in age from 15 to 25 years, presented 63 works in three categories, Painting any medium, Drawing and Photography. Oil, acrylic & mixed media featured in Section 1, with drawings in charcoal, pencil, ink, chalk and pastel in Section 2, and monochrome and colour photography in Section three. Entries came from Blackall, Boulia, Charleville, Longreach, Quilpie, Tambo, Yaraka and Winton.

Highlights from the Shire Collection

Sculpture and three dimensional works from the Shire Colllection are on display in the Gallery Foyer. The Redcliffe quilt, created by members of the Henzell Street quilters, and presented to Winton in 1998 to mark the Redcliffe/ Winton Sister City relationship, can also be viewed.

The award announcements for the BHP Billiton Waltzing Matilda Photographic Competition drew a large crowd of artists and supporters to the Gallery on Friday 17th September 2010. This competition, now in its fourteenth year, has become one of the best known photographic prizes in outback Australia. 143 entries from five States were hung, reflecting the competition theme ‘Image of the Outback’.
