2008 Awards Presentation evening was held at the Outback Regional Gallery in Winton on Friday 25 April, in conjunction with the Waltzing Matilda Centre Tenth Birthday celebrations held over the Anzac Day weekend. Major sponsor, Ergon Energy, was represented by Greg Campbell, Acting Area Operations Manager, North West Qld, who officially opened the exhibition and confirmed Ergon's commitment to the Winton community through their partnership in the Art Show.
Judge Merv Moriarty congratulated artists on the quality of work selected for the exhibition, and encouraged those present to continue their artistic journey. He recalled his earlier visits to Winton during the days of the Flying Art School, and the joy of bringing skills and knowledge to isolated outback communities.
A Queensland entry, No place for a woman, was selected as the major prizewinner, with the judge describing the work as " ...a powerful work...this painting works superbly in the abstract...has come from deep within the person who painted it" Second placing went to Red horizon "...outstanding use of painting technique, colour & tone control, & design...a beautiful painting ", with third placing to Golden plains "...a beautifully executed abstract..."
Highly Commended entries were The shearer "skilful use of colour, painting & design...a split second in time..", One owner, always garaged, runs well "great use of an unusual subject....well painted with a 'bright' technique..", Browns cows "...great visual idea that tells its own story...", Glasshouses 8 (diptych) " ...an accomplished work with an interesting technique...well executed..."
53 works, selected from 84 entries representing the theme 'Celebrating the Outback', were presented for the awards.

Third: Drought to flood (fused glass) Gayle Shaw Graceville Qld.
Patron's Prize: Another day unfolds over the outback (felt, machine embroidery on canvas) Rhonda Rettke Gympie Qld.
The People's Choice Award will be announced at the close of the exhibition.
The exhibition is supported by Ergon Energy, Winton Shire Council, Arts Qld through the Regional Arts Development Fund, and the Waltzing Matilda Centre, and will be on display until 11 July 2008.
10th Anniversary Local Artists Exhibition 21/08/2008
This exhibition in the Gallery Foyer features works by nine Winton artists. Photographs, paintings, sculpture and leatherwork from Sash Whitehead, Joanne Warren, Catherine Mims, Rob McQueen, Jess Lang, Lorraine Entriken, Irene Elliott, Gayle East and Jan Brown have been selected for the exhibition.
