A multitude of volunteers consisting of locals as well as grey nomads passing through Winton have saved countless objects that suffered fire damage after the loss of the centre. Mr Collins of the Winton District Historical Society was surprised and humbled when people with no ties to the town or area were willing to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand.

Most tasks are tedious cleaning work of objects or documents exposed to smoke and water damage while other particularly valuable items have been sent away to be professionally restored while other objects were beyond repair.
“It’s been a long road. We’re well down the road, but we’re not quite at the end of it,”
