David Watt


Not just an old shed 2008
 

A manipulated colour photograph by young emerging artist, David Watt. Born in 1984, and exhibiting for the first time in the inaugural Generation Y Regional Youth Competition & Exhibition, curated by the Outback Regional Gallery, which was on display in the gallery from 10th November 2008 to 6th February 2009. He won first prize in the photographic section.

“I have been working with Photoshop for a few years now. My favorite styles are gothic/horror/macabre scenes, starting with complete photos or just selected parts of them and creating completely different and surreal pictures”.

This work won the celebrity prize in the Ergon Energy Waltzing Matilda Outback Art Show 2009, which was then gifted by the artist to the Outback Regional Gallery.

An oil on canvas board acquired into the shire collection in 2010.

Ruby Spowart


Ghost gum Standley Chasm 1996

 

Victoria born, residing in Queensland, Ruby Spowart is renowned in Australian photography.

Being awarded a Double Master of photography of the Australian Institute Professional Photography (AIPP) in 1998, and then awarded a Fellowship of the AIPP in 1999.

Ruby was also awarded a Industry Lifetime Achievement Award by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography in 2009

With works in many collection including the National Gallery of Australia,the ACMP Collection and the Queensland Art Gallery.

The Winton Shire Council purchased a collection of 18 infrared photographs by Ruby, through the Council acquisition fund in October 2010.

“A dry storm was taken in 1992 just outside our front gate at "Mentone" so it was almost like a private storm. It is Agfa film 100asa. I have been passionate with taking photos for many years and still love taking photos. My favourite subjects would be scenery, clouds and people”.
