Research & Family History Research & Family History

Research your family history from the Winton District Historical Society records, in the airconditioned comfort of the reading room. Discover the stories behind the turbulent shearers' strikes of the 1890s and the writing of Waltzing Matilda in the Winton district in 1895.

Information folders in the Museum Reading Room cover many topics in the lives of Winton residents, from early European settlement, the great pastoral stations of Oondooroo, Elderslie, Bladensburg, Vindex and Dagworth, military service from the Boer War to East Timor, business, sporting, social and cultural life.  You may even find something about a pioneer ancestor, who went west and never returned!

Volunteers from the Winton District Historical Society are responsible for family history and other research enquiries from visitors to this site and our museum.  For a small fee, we will do our best to help you with your enquiry.
